Angler Fish - Ugliest Fish Alive

One of the ugliest looking creatures living deep in the ocean is the Angler Fish. You may have seen it from the anime movie called Finding Nemo (which I watched it yesterday too :)  ), but they didn't much show the real look of that fish. Probably because it might scare the kids lol.
So here are some amazing facts about this fish. The ocean is a cruel place to live, so no wonder the angler fish tries to look scary!
Ok so the Angler fish live deep in the ocean, where the sun has never been seen. There are around 210 angler fish ranging in colour and size. The biggest one seen is one meter long (3.3 feet) in length, whereas the smallest is little less than a foot.

The deep sea angler fish has a modified fin that contains luminescent bacteria. The glow is to attract the pray, just like mots to a light bulb.Their mouths are so big and their bodies so pliable, they can actually swallow prey up to twice their own size.  to increas a sexual attraction to the opposite sex. After the pheromones are released, it's just a matter of time when the male finds her. It'sgood to point out that the male angler fish is 40 times smaller than the female!

Once the male finds the female, he then bites her ( yes, bites her)  with his own teeth. He starts to degenerate. His jaw fuses into the skin and his internal organs would disappear. He would never eat, because he would get all the nutrition from the bloodstream of his female which would soon become fused with his bloodstream. Sooner or later the male loses his eyes, mouth and everything except his testes

The female can carry six or more males on her body - the male in this case are much smaller than she herself., therefore she feels little weight put together.
This is really good to watch on Youtube as you can see how its done. The Angler fish lives so deep, it's actually very difficult to study her. The above photos more or less show you how the female looks like. I would say no matter which one of those pics above is more accurate, she still is the ugliest fish alive!!

Sleepwalking - When Sleep Turns Into Activity

For many years, since I was a little girl, I have been sleepwalking. I never knew why this happens and why was I the only one in my family who was doing it. It's not that I felt something, but when my mother was telling me the day later, that I have been doing certain things, and even saying certain words, I was really scared.

Since a year now, my walks during night finally disappeared. that is why I can now open myself and talk about what happens when you sleepwalk and most importantly what is sleepwalking.

As you know from the name, Sleepwalking as in walking while being asleep.
It is a sleep disorder, where a person (being fully asleep) suddenly gets out of bed and performs tasks.
It is very important to note, that the person is fully asleep during his sleepwalk.
The start of sleepwalking begins with getting out of bed. Some people walk around, touching furniture, they start to clean, and perform other tasks (in children it is very common that they try to do homework, dress up etc) and in some occasions, a sleepwalker tries to run, or "escape".
The activities are limitless. There were even some incidents when a person tried to cook, drive and even commit suicide.

The Causes of Sleepwalking

Cause one is GeneticsSleepwalking occurs more frequently in identical twins, and is 10 times more likely to occur if a first-degree relative has a history of sleepwalking. Therefore, it is thought the condition can be inherited.

Also, Stress is one of the main causes ( in a child, even a stress brought from school can be a cause).

Chaotic sleep schedules - the brain is one othe most important organ in a human body. With a chaotic sleep schedule, even the lack of it may cause a person to sleepwalk.

Fever - The body is not at its normal temperature, so it is trying to do all it can to bring back to normal. Therefore, shivering, lack of appetite, sweating and/or hallucinations/sleepwalking may occur.

Psychiatric disorders, for example, posttraumatic stress disorder, panic attack, or dissociative states, such as multiple personality disorder can lead to a sleepwalk.

I would say these would be the 5 main causes of such behavior. There is probably a dozen more, but I guess from what I've experienced, these would suit my fortunately gone sleep disorder.

Sleepwalkers often have little or no memory of the incident, as they are not truly conscious. Although their eyes are open, their expression is dim and glazed over. Sleepwalking may last as little as 30 seconds or as long as 30 minutes.

I remember when my mother said, that I woke up one day and got dressed for school, and I was hitting the door just to get out. Of course, I had no clue what she said. As from what I know, my body was awake but my mind was asleep. So whatever I was dreaming about, my body received the message and started to do tasks.

This is interesting:  In 2004, sleep medicine experts in  Australia claimed to have successfully treated a woman who claimed to have sex with strangers in her sleep.

I thank to this day nothing had ever happened to me.

Eskimo People - What we know

Today I came across a great topic. I read an article about the Eskimo People. Even though they live in the world's most coldest conditions, they still manage it. In the north pole, the people there have strong traditions and great tribes.

As many of you know, the North Pole doesn't actually have supermarkets available just around the corner. People must hunt for their food.
Hunting is the most important thing for Eskimo People. Fishing is very common i the North Pole. The person usually does it alone, however when it comes to hunting, Eskimo People work together. Also, the tribes have many dogs which are tied to a sleigh and carry their owners for a hunting adventure.

Not only does hunting help provide food to the whole tribe, it also provides fur which is nothing but essential when living in cold conditions. Fur is transformed into a piece of clothing, bed covers or anything else to keep warmth.

Parka Coat -  this is a thick coat combined of two layers. It is an important survival kit, which warms the person's body in harsh weather conditions. Remember, the temperature in the North Pole may go down to     -40'C in January. Keeping warmth is an essential survival job.

Culture - When it comes to dividng the chores, men are the ones that brought food to the house, while women stayed at home, taking care of it. The religion which is usually passed on from one Eskimo to another is Shamanism.
(Shamanism is based on the belief that the visible world is pervaded by invisible forces or spirits that affect the lives of the living. Shamans are not, however, organized within full-time ritual or spiritual associations, as are priests. Shamans enter into trances through such methods as autohypnosis, the ingestion of hallucinogens, fasting, and self-mortification, during which time they are said to be in contact with the spirit world. Shamanism requires specialized knowledge or abilities, which are often thought to be obtained through heredity or supernatural calling.)

Many Eskimos still live in "ice houses", still use wooden weapons and depend on dogs in transportation. However in Canada and the United States many Eskimos now live in settled communities, they work for wages and use guns for hunting.

Left-handed people...Facts!

It is a fact that left handed people have the right side of the brain more active. Right hand people have their left side of the brain more active.

The right side of the brain is responsible mainly for emotional expression, spatial awarness, creativity, imagination and
music. Left handed people use this side of the brain more often, so that means that they may have a better imagination or creativity
from a person who is right-handed who uses the other side of the brain (left side) which is responsible for language, writing, maths etc.

Here are some crazy facts about those left-handed people:)

1. According to the Scientific American, 15% of people are left-handed. There are more left-handed men than women.

2. Left-handed people have a better tendency in becoming geniuses. 20% of people in MENSA are left-handed.

3. Left handed men are approx. 15% wealthier from right-handed, when it comes to a people who took a survey on this.

4. Left-handed people have a bigger tendency in becoming alcoholic.

5. If both of parents are left-handed, there is a 50% chance that their child will be left-handed. If both parents are right-handed,
the chance is as low a 2% for a chikd to become left-handed.

6. Left-handed people less like spiral notebooks than right-handed people

7. The tests taken by Dr. Nick Cherbuin revealed that left-handed people better handle themselves with "many buttons", suck as
when using a playstation pad, so that means they may be better in any tv and computer games.

8. Left- handed people reach their puberty 4-5 months later than right-handed people.

9. 3 out of 5 people who invented Mac are left-handed.

10. The last 3 U.S.A presidents are/were left- handed - Obama, Clinton and Bush.

The life of a Wolf

Wolves are the largest members of the dog family. They may weigh from 19 to 80 kgs and they are best spotted in a pack of wolves.
Though wolves almost never attack people, they are recognized to be one of the most fearsome animals.

They attack domestic animals therefore a wide number of animals have been spotted to be shot because of that reason.

Wolfpacks are established according to a strict hierarchy, with a dominant male at the top and his mate not far behind.
Usually, this male and female are the only animals of the pack to breed.
All of the pack's adults help to care for the young and little pups by bringing them food and watching them while others hunt.

A wolf can live up to 13 years in the wild, however, the average is only 6-8 years.
Their fur color varies from gray, tan and brown to pure white or black.
They can run as fast as 35 mph
They hunt other animals, using their highly developed smell and hearing.

A single wolf howls to attract the attention of his pack,
When all the pack of wolves howl, it's becauce they may be sending a territorial message to another pack.
Some howls are confrontational. It may sound similar to a dog's bark and this may simply begin because a nearby wolf has already
begun doing it.

The Beauty of Fuerteventura

Ahh, Summer is just around the corner, yet I can feel it already, do you? Of coarse you do! Many of us are already packing summer dresses and floral swimsuits and have their flight tickets booked! Unfortunately, most people aren't quite sure where to go yet and are stuck sitting at home where others drink cocktails beside the outdoor pool or even better- on the beach.

Not to worry though, as I am giving you a great idea! I have gathered some great info about this island called Fuerteventura, and I am willing to pass on what I learned so far:

Fuerteventura is a Spanish Island located 100km off the northwest coast of mainland Africa. It is one of the many islands, all of them are called the Canary Islands.

Fuerteventura is the second largest Canary Island. The largest is Tenerife, the third is Gran Canaria. Each one has a whole year of sunny days and warm winds.

It is also the second largest Canary Island and is the closest to the African coast.
With 3000 hours of sunshine a year and over 150 long sandy beaches, Fuerteventura is a great destination for beach lovers seeking a spot of winter sun.
The island is characterised by its rocky volcanic terrain and many impressive sand dunes.

Food and Groceries

Naturally, the Island offers fresh fruits and vegetables, you will find a wide variety of sea food in many stores. One of the cheapest is HiperDino. These supermarkets are spread around the Canary Islands and are usually the best choice as they offer almost everything, from a wide variety of alcohol, to cosmetics, food and toys.

The prices for the basic products are as follows:
Euro1.50 for 5 Litres of water (yup, they sell 5litres of water which sums up to be cheaper then when you buy a small bottle)
Euro 1 for bread, butter, tomatoes, milk, juices etc (most of them are rounded up to 1Euro!)
Alcohol: A can of a local beer costs up to 50cents
For 1 Liter of Vodka or Whiskey you will need to spend between Euro10-15 depending on the brand (Jack Daniels will cost more, whereas the Spanish Vodka or Whiskey cost approx. E10).

So Food and drinks are really cheap there . What I would worry more about is the price of Sunblocks, moisturizing creams and all the other cosmetic stuff. Like all the sunny islands, they "feed" on these products. That is why they are very expensive, probably more expensive from where you live. I would advise you to go to your local supermarket and buy these stuff. remember- the temperatures are really high in Canary islands, so you need to make sure you are fully protected from the sun.

People

The people are nice and friendly there. You will notice that most of them speak English and German but this will mostly occur in the Touristic areas, such as around the hotels and beaches. I have lived in Gran Canaria for 3 months, and I noticed that the deeper you walk into the island, the more Spanish you'll hear.

Land

Fuerteventura is a home to the world speed surfing championships and its excellent waves and stunning beaches make the island perfect for the more active traveller wanting to sample some water sports. Corralejo is one of the largest resorts on the island and is perfect for families and couples seeking a relaxed sunny holiday. For an interesting day out why not explore the former capital of Betancuria or take a boat trip to the small island of Los Lobos with its beautiful nature reserve.

Black Holes- A place of no Return

Ok, so today's amazing facts will be about the Black Holes.

A Black Hole is a region in space in which nothing, not even light can escape. So once something gets in, it can't get out.
The area around the black hole is called the event horizon. There is a huge gravitational pull going in on in the event horizon. Any planet, any star, or any light that crosses the event horizon, will greatly be sucked in to the black hole.

The event horizon is also called "a point of no return" as because anything in this area will be sucked into the black hole with absolutely no chance of escape.
Black holes are not strong enough to pull anything outside the event horizon.

In the event horizon (the area around the black hole) the time appears to slow down for the external viewer, but in fact it doesn't.

These black holes are formed when heavy stars collapse in a supernova at the end of their life cycle. After a black hole has formed it can continue to grow by absorbing mass from its surroundings. By sucking in other stars and merging with other black holes, supermassive black holes of millions of solar masses may be formed.

Kuru Disease- Cannibalism Facts

Many years ago people believed in many things. The times really differed from what we have now. Especially medicine as nobody back then had a drug store to go every time they had a cough or flu. Instead people experimented with things I still can't believe you could do. Some of their experiments were successful weather it healed a wound or fought a disease. Other experiments made everything worse. New diseases were formed then spread.
Once of these diseases is Kuru Disease.

Kuru, also known as laughing sickness due to the outbursts of laughter that mark its second phase, was first noted in New Guinea in the early 1900s. By the 1950s, anthropologists and Australian government officials reported that kuru was rampant with approximately 8,000 cases. The infected group partook in ritual acts of mortuary cannibalism, which behaviour was later determined to be responsible for the epidemic transmission of the disease. the disease all but disappeared with the termination of cannibalism in New Guinea

Kuru is a prion disease very like scrapie in sheep, BSE mad cow disease and its human form vCJD (variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease). Kuru was the first transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (prion disease) discovered in humans.

Kuru is a disease passed on during funeral rites of the Fore tribe when the body of the dead was ritually cooked and eaten. The brain, the most infected part of the body of someone with Kuru was eaten by the closest females relatives of the departed. The women and children scooped out the brain from the skull and would not wash their hands for many weeks after the funeral. The disease was probably also passed onto many others in the tribe because of this practice.

Kuru dementia is now almost non existent for two main reasons. The disease wiped out many tribes who practiced this ritual and Government in New Guinea discouraged cannibalism. It is believed the disease existed for only a short time as elders could not remember it when they were young.
Kuru Infected Brain

Signs of Kuru, like variant CJD is believed to have a long incubation period of many years. Signs and symptoms include profound neurological deterioration that manifests itself with disordered movement, tremors, unsteadiness, mood disorder and in some dementia. Death followed a comatose state within 6 to 12 months after the first appearance of symptoms.

There is no treatment for Kuru.

College- A Hit or a Myth??

So I decided to drop a few names below. These are some of the people who never, ever finished school. They either never applied or they dropped out after few months. This shows that even without a degree, you are able to be on top of the world. Check out who NEVER finished school!!

People Who NEVER finished college:

1. Halle Berry - Multimillionaire Actress

2.  Michael Dell - founder and CEO of DELL

3. Henry Ford - Ford motor Company

4. Rachel Ray- TV show Cook

5. Steven Spielberg- Movie Director

6. Mark Zuckerberg - Facebook Founder

7. Bill Gates- Founder of Microsoft.

These people are now one of the world's most powerful and most successful people. They never got their degree, as they believed in more. They wanted much more than a high paycheck every month. All these people worked their ass off, just to get on top of the world. Some had  ideas, and some were looking for one. This is how you win.

See, it doesn't matter what's written on a piece of paper. It's what in your head. If you can do more, or want more- what's stopping you? You go out there and you get what you deserve. After all, you have nothing to lose.

This is just my opinion, but I believe that college will bring you stability and balance in your life, but not millions. Sure, you will get a nice paycheck every month, you'll go to the same job every single day, because you have to. You just spend say 3 or 6 years in college just to do this job.  Maybe after few years you will get a raise. But will you be different from others? Will you earn more than your colleague? How about millions? Have you ever thought how to get them? I did. And someday I will be there.

666- a Devil number or just a Myth?

I think we all saw "The Omen" movie, in which a small boy had a birth mark on his head. It was the number 666. But what does it mean? Why do people think of it as a Devil's number?
When I saw "The Omen" I just knew that many people said the number 666 to be unlucky. I didn't think of it as unlucky, as I was born on the 6th, my favourite number is 6, and I met my true love on the 6th!! There you have, three sixes. So either I'm the granddaughter of the little boy  from the movie, or this is just a myth.:) Check out what I found when I googled the number 666:

I have written down the most recognized reasons:

*In the New Testament, The Book of Revelation assets the number 666 to be "the number of a man", which is associated with "the beast".
*This beast is an antagonistic creature that appears briefly about 2/3rds into the apocalyptic vision.
* In today's world, the 666 has become one of the most widely recognized symbols for Antichrist.
*.It is not uncommon to see the symbolic role of the integer 666 transferred to the digit sequence 6-6-6. *Some people take the Satanic associations of 666 so seriously that they actively avoid things related to 666 or the digits 6-6-6. This is known as hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia.
 * In the Bible,  the number 666 is the number of Adokinam's descendants who return to Jerusalem and Judah from the Babylonian exile.
* The number 666 is a frequent visual element of Aryan Brotherhood tattoos.

In terms of mathematics, the number means a lot in this field:

*  666 is the sum of the first 36 natural numbers. So, if we add the first 36 numbers ( 1+ 2+3+....+36= 666)
* the number 36 is a a square and a triangular number
* 666 is a member of the indices of prime Pandovan numbers: 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 14, 19, 30, 37, 84, 128, 469, 666, 1262, 1573, 2003, 2210, ...
* 666 is the sum of the squares of the first 7 prime numbers: 4+9+25+49+121+169+289=666.
* The number of prime numbers up to 666 is 121, the square of the number of prime numbers up to 36.

So there you have it. Not much devil as in " always the number happens when something bad happens" kinda thing:)
